According to Visit Boise, \u201cBoise is both urban and wild. It\u2019s grit and glamour. Our lively, clean, artistic, vibrant, tree-lined city is just steps from mountains, a river and hundreds of trails.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city offers a delightful blend of outdoor recreational opportunities, arts and culture spaces, and good food, all easily accessible from the Boise State campus and downtown region. Below are a few popular areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofboise.org\/departments\/parks-and-recreation\/parks\/camels-back-park\/\">Camel\u2019s Back Park<\/a> offers an easy entry into the Ridge to Rivers Trail, with accessible hiking and trail running paths<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public art is featured throughout the city, including public murals and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freakalleyboise.com\/\">Freak Alley Gallery<\/a>, a constantly changing public art display situated downtown<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boise offers <a href=\"https:\/\/visitboise.com\/eat\/\">a wide range of food options<\/a> to suit any food preference, many of which are available downtown and easily walkable from hotels and campus. Garden City (an easy bike ride from downtown) is home to several <a href=\"https:\/\/visitboise.com\/eat\/wineries\/\">wineries<\/a>. Boise also offers wide range of <a href=\"https:\/\/visitboise.com\/eat\/breweries\/\">breweries<\/a> (and a cider house!), many of which are also downtown. And stellar local coffee shops are easily accessible throughout the downtown region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For wildlife lovers, the Boise Zoo (located right across the river from campus) and World Center for Birds of Prey are popular destinations. In addition to vehicle transportation options, Boise also offers bike rentals and is also safely bikeable\/walkable with designated bike lanes, wide sidewalks, and the Greenbelt to facilitate non-car based transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Airports<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iflyboise.com\/\">Boise Airport<\/a> is served by nine airlines with 27 nonstop locations, making it a fairly easy flight from most locations. The airport is also a short drive from the downtown area and approximately 4 miles from the Boise State campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Buses<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.valleyregionaltransit.org\/\">Valley Regional Transit<\/a> runs buses from the airport to campus and through different areas in the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Boise State provides a free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/publicsafety-transportation\/bronco-shuttle\/\">Bronco Shuttle service<\/a>, which also runs through the downtown area. These shuttles are ADA accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Bronco Shuttle is a free service Boise State University Department of Public Safety provides, carrying students, faculty, and guests around campus. The shuttle operates on a regular weekday schedule, ensuring everyone can get where they are going promptly.&nbsp; The Blue and Orange lines operate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the Green line operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters when class is in session.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Rental Car<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rental cars are available at the airport from major providers, including Avis\/Budget, Alamo, Dollar Car Rental, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hertz, National, and Thrifty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Ground Transportation<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iflyboise.com\/parking-transportation\/ground-transportation\/\">Ground transportation<\/a> is widely available. Uber and Lyft, as well as local taxi services, are available, in addition to the Valley Regional Transit busses and the Boise State Bronco Shuttles. Some hotels provide complementary shuttle service to and from the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Parking<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On campus parking is available in two different parking decks (Lincoln Garage and Brady Garage). These garages are both a short walk away from the Liberal Arts Building and parking passes will be available for attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Things To Do<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interested in birds and conservation? Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/peregrinefund.org\/visit\">World\u2019s Center for Birds of Prey<\/a> and purchase a ticket for <a href=\"https:\/\/peregrinefund.org\/fall-flights\">Fall Flights<\/a>! The Center is open daily 10am-5pm; Fall Flights take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October (show is at 11am; doors open at 10am\u2013recommended arrival before 10:30am). <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.peregrinefund.org\/pages\/2026-fall-flights-landing-page\">Book your tickets<\/a> ahead of time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you like to hike, mountain bike, and\/or trail run? You can easily access popular hiking trails in the Boise foothills. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ridgetorivers.org\/\">Ridge to Rivers<\/a> website lists trails and an interactive map to plan your trek! Some recommended routes include<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Starting at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofboise.org\/departments\/parks-and-recreation\/parks\/camels-back-park\/\">Camel\u2019s Back Park<\/a>, easy access to a range of trails of various distances and the Foothills Learning Center<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ridgetorivers.org\/trails\/trail-areas\/table-rock-area\/\">Table Rock<\/a> is a popular local hiking destination!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jenn can point to other hiking recommendations, depending on what you\u2019re after, so feel free to ask!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofboise.org\/departments\/parks-and-recreation\/parks\/julia-davis-park\/\">Julia Davis Park<\/a>, you\u2019ll find the <a href=\"https:\/\/boiseartmuseum.org\/\">Boise Art Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/history.idaho.gov\/museum\/\">Idaho State Historical Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibhm.org\/\">Idaho Black History Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/zooboise.org\/\">Zoo Boise<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dcidaho.org\/\">the Discovery Center<\/a>, along with lots of natural space to enjoy\u2013all easily accessible from Boise State\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a bike or on foot (or via rental scooter), you can take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofboise.org\/departments\/parks-and-recreation\/parks\/boise-greenbelt\/\">Greenbelt<\/a> along the Boise River and head all the way out to <a href=\"https:\/\/parksandrecreation.idaho.gov\/state-park\/lucky-peak-state-park\/\">Lucky Peak State Park<\/a> or to various other attractions! You can also make your way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitgardencity.com\/\">Garden City<\/a>, where you can access the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitgardencity.com\/things-to-do\/craft-beverages\/\">Beverage Corridor<\/a> or other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitgardencity.com\/visitors-guide\/\">attractions<\/a>, like watching surfers ride river waves or enjoying wineries and restaurants with a river view.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History Buffs. Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/history.idaho.gov\/oldpen\/\">Old Idaho State Penitentiary<\/a>, one of only four territorial prisons still open to the public today. Explore the historic cellblocks and hear stories of escapes, scandals, and Boise\u2019s transformation from the Wild West into a modern capital city.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boise Music Scene. Dig through the stacks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therecordexchange.com\/\">The Record Exchange<\/a>. A Boise institution since 1977, packed with new and used vinyl, CDs, music, gifts, and plenty of local personality. Even if you don\u2019t buy a record, it\u2019s worth wandering through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Catch a show at <a href=\"https:\/\/treefortmusichall.com\/\">Treefort Music Hall<\/a>, one of the hubs of Boise\u2019s thriving music scene and home base for the annual Treefort Music Fest. Catch touring artists, discover a new favorite band, or just experience a little of the indie energy that has put Boise on the music map. Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/treefortmusichall.com\/hap-hap\/\">Hap Hap<\/a> on the roof for snacks or a beverage for Treefort vibes.&nbsp; There are many ways to search for live shows in Boise and here\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bandsintown.com\/c\/boise-id\">one of them.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wander through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freakalleyboise.com\/\">Freak Alley Gallery<\/a>, the largest open-air mural gallery in the Northwest, where an ever-changing collection of colorful street art fills an entire downtown Boise alleyway.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/about\/boise-states-blue-turf\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Visit the Blue Turf<\/a>, named USA Today\u2019s Best Attraction for Sports Fans in 2025. Pay homage to Idaho\u2019s timber roots with <a href=\"https:\/\/grabthehandle.com\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">axe throwing<\/a>, or wander through <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpboise.org\/things-to-do\">JUMP<\/a> (Jack\u2019s Urban Meeting Place), a playful downtown gathering space filled with giant slides, public art, vintage tractors, gardens, and rooftop views. While you\u2019re there, learn about Idaho\u2019s potato baron, J.R. Simplot, whose innovations in frozen potato processing helped put Idaho fries on the map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food recommendations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Downtown Boise offers <a href=\"https:\/\/downtownboise.org\/dine\/dining\">a lot of dining options<\/a>. Here are some good ones!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Boise is known for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebasqueblock.com\/\">Basque Block<\/a>, which also has a lot of delightful Basque restaurants including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bargernika.com\/\">Bar Gernika<\/a> (Featured on DIners, Driveins, and Dives) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebasquemarket.com\/\">Basque Market<\/a>! You should also check out <a href=\"https:\/\/ansots.com\/\">Ansot\u2019s<\/a> \u00a0(James Beard nominee) nearby for Basque tapas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>James Beard enthusiasts should check out <a href=\"http:\/\/kin\">KIN<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/theaveryboise.com\/avery\/\">Avery<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kibromsfood.com\/\">Kibrom\u2019s Ethiopian &amp; Eritrean Food<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.janjou.com\/\">Janjou P\u00e2tisserie<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.warehouseboise.com\/\">The Warehouse Food Hall<\/a> offers a range of dining options. Some favorites include\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.terroirboise.com\/\">Terroir<\/a> another James Beard Nominee (excellent gluten-free and vegetarian options)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bittercreekalehouse.com\/\">BitterCreek Alehouse<\/a> a Boise original to the craft beer and alehouse scene.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When in Idaho, eat a potato! Or get yourself a variety of fried potatoes at the <a href=\"https:\/\/downtownboise.org\/go\/boise-fry-company-1\">Boise Fry Company<\/a>. Or order the Ice Cream Potato at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsidedrivein.com\/\">Westside Drive In<\/a>. It&#8217;s ice cream disguised as a baked potato. Also order the Finger Steaks, with Fry Sauce, Two Idaho Classics.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/lemontreeboise.com\/\">Lemon Tree Co.<\/a> offers delicious sandwiches (great options for gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/moonskitchenboise.org\/\">Moon\u2019s Kitchen<\/a> offers an excellent breakfast option (including good gluten-free pancakes!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking for something specific?
